Reaching high maturity in business is considered to be a good indicator of the organization's progress in respect of business excellence.
The key questions that can be asked are - how are these two concepts high maturity and business excellence connected? Are they the same or are they different? One of the ways to understand high maturity is to view it from the perspective of the CMMI framework. In the CMMI framework which has five maturity levels, the top two levels (4 - Quantitatively Managed and 5 - Optimizing) are supposed to constitute high maturity. Don't forget to notice the term Optimizing... yes it's "Optimizing" and not "Optimized". Any guesses why? well excellence is a never ending journey. High maturity is directly connected to how the work is performed. The concept of excellence includes high maturity as a key characteristic amongst so many others like - consistency of outcome, efficiency in resource utilization, sustainability of the business model, compliance to applicable rules and regulations, potential of revenue generation, etc. Business excellence is a larger concept which envelops high maturity. Becoming high maturity is surely a path for organizations to follow as it would lead them directly towards business excellence. |
