Implementation Challenges

During the implementation of business excellence frameworks such as CMMI, ISO 9001, ISO 27001, etc. an organization would come across many challenges, risks and issues. The primary reason for these challenges is that these improvement programs are typically long drawn - lasting for several months or years. And such a long duration presents its own dynamics in terms of organizational churn like change in people, change in policies and procedures, change inbusiness climate, change in business imperatives for the organization, etc.

List of typical implementation challenges:

  • Change in organization’s leadership team and executive sponsors
  • Dilution in the involvement and commitment of executive management
  • Attrition of key personnel involvement with the implementation of the improvement program
  • Organizational culture and workplace politics
  • Lack of ready availability of required competencies in the organization
  • Decline in business growth and profitability
  • Shifting in the organization's corporate and business strategy
  • Non-availability of adequate funds at the appropriate time
  • Cultural barriers due to mental blocks - necessitates extensive and rigorous application of Organizational Change Management strategies
  • Diversion of attention due to fire-fighting required from time to time
  • Initiation, in parallel, of another program or programs in the organization
