Achieving CMMI Certification

Organizations looking forward to get CMMI certified need to consider CMMI Certification as a project with a start and an end. However, the cultural aspect of consistent processes and continuous improvement must live forever for deriving the maximum value from CMMI implementation.

For any CMMI certification, the following threads need to be managed in a comprehensive and timely manner:

Process Definition, Process Improvement and Quantitative Analysis

This relates to upgrading existing process assets, creating new process assets, controlling changes to organizational process assets, improving processes and quantitatively characterizing organizational processes for directing improvement activities.

Process Deployment

This relates to ensuring projects and support groups use the organizational processes (with tailoring, as needed). This may require process facilitation and training being imparted to project personnel.

Consultant / Lead Appraiser Engagement

This relates to deciding on the Consultant / Lead Appraiser, planning visits, organizing meetings with internal stakeholders, acting upon the report prepared by Consultant / Lead Appraiser.

Organizational Change Management

This relates to securing executive commitment, managing culture and changes to the culture, aligning CMMI certification project within the organizational context, etc.

Program Management

This relates to coordinating the above threads, status tracking, obtaining budget and resources on time, etc.
