ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is a framework for designing, developing and deploying a management system for managing the environmental impact of the operations of a business organization.

Companies typically establish an EMS (Environment Management System) as the primary vehicle for deploying ISO 14001 requirements. An EMS enables the organization to:
1. set objectives on parameters which indicate impact on the environment
2. monitor and control the environmental impact of its operations in line with the objectives
3. improve the mechanism to reduce the impact on environment
4. and lastly, demonstrate compliance to ISO 14001 requirements

An effective implementation of ISO 14001 will generally make use of ISO 9001 as the basic framework on top of which EMS gets deployed.

It's increasingly becoming crucial for business enterprises to adopt and practice sustainable business practices. Tighter government regulations and ever-vigilant media ensures that companies don't harm the planet in their pursuit of ever-higher profits.

Many companies have adopted "Go Green" campaigns for educating their employees on eco-friendly practices. In addition, many companies have started investing heavily in "Green Technologies".
