CMMI for Development or CMMI-DEV is the most well-known and adopted CMMI framework. The main application of this framework is for the development and maintenance of engineering activities - be it mechanical engineering, software engineering or systems engineering.
Due to origin of the CMMI frameworks in the software industry, there is a misconception amongst non-software organizations that CMMI is not applicable to them. However, the truth is that CMMI-DEV is equally applicable to mechanical engineering as it is to software engineering.
