Staffing for Quality and Improvement

Though quality and improvement are considered to be everyone's responsibility it is also equally true that if everyone is responsible for an activity then no one will actually do it.

That makes it imperative for organizations to employ professionals who will staff the quality and improvement function. These professionals must be those who have been trained and have experience in performing quality and improvement activities.

Putting just anyone into roles where the key responsibility is to run the quality and improvement program is not a good idea. There are occasions when someone who has done an operational activity exceptionally well is put into charge for leading the 'quality and improvement' of that activity. This is similar to saying that every exceptional cricket player would make a good enough coach. This can happen but shouldn't be assumed to be always the case.
