Deploying Business Processes

Deployment of business processes means that while performing the assigned business activities, the personnel involved make use of the defined processes. True deployment of a business process means the defined processes are used under all circumstances. True deployment also means that a business process has become an integral part of the organization’s DNA.

How to Effectively Deploy Business Process? Effective deployment of business processes assumes that the following key challenges are managed well:

Lack of involvement and support from people
People claim to be too busy with “Business As Usual” with no bandwidth available for getting involved in activities such as process compliance, process improvement that are not regarded as “real” work!

Lack of real management commitment
Many leaders and managers advocate use of standardized business processes but champion them only at a superficial level. There are talks that demonstrate strong commitment to using defined process processes but at the first sight of an organizational crisis the “good” practices get sidelined – this kind of behavior implies that “good” practices are only for “good times” and cascades through the organization in no time and stays that way for good.

Too much emphasis on process compliance so that even poorly defined processes get ingrained into the organization
Just like good practices, avoidable practices also tend to stick to the organizational DNA. Organizations must watch out for absolute process compliance even when theprocesses are not effectively defined. All incidents of lack of absolute process compliance should be evaluated first for “gaps” in the defined processes before they are addressed for “gaps” in process deployment.

Inadequate or missing tool support
Deploying business processes using automated tools and templates greatly increases the deployment effectiveness in terms of the intensity, consistency and depth. However, usage of automated tools and templates without stabilizing the process to some degree must be avoided. There could be cases where the business process is standardized across the industry and the process deployment is done using a tool right at the beginning.
