CMMI is a framework for driving organization-wide excellence. CMMI stands for Capability Maturity Model Integration. Each of these four words - Capability, Maturity, Model and Integration - mean a lot beyond their immediate dictionary meeting. CMMI is a compendium of practices which help improve the basic engineering / creation activities an organization is involved in (Engineering) along with the way the basic engineering / creation activities are managed (Project Management). It is also about practices that enable and support improved "Engineering" and "Project Management" (Support). And finally, there are practices that lend the framework an organizational flavor and provide ways so that practices stick on and get improved continually (Process Management). Searching for "SEI CMMI' using Google brings up a lot of information about this area which can be used by organizations. The SEI (Software Engineering Institute) website also provides tons of information on CMMI. |
